In society, we look at the mentally challenged and ask “Why?” We ask God why we would let them live, and why will he not rid the world of them. People tend to find it hard to love them and to care for them. We tend to throw them off to the side, shun them, put them in homes for the handicapped, and talk harsh to them or about them.
The point is that God made us in his own image. They are more like him than we are to him. You may be asking “How is this possible?” Well they are shunned, accused of being dumb and un-controlling, not following rules and always need someone to be with them. God wants us to be with him. God wants us to love him, care for one another, show love to one another, to fellowship and live with each other. This is exactly how life skilled are living their lives.
I remember when I used to take care of mentally challenged kids and the love they showed me. I would walk in to the room, and they would get so excited. They would meet me at the door, hug me, kiss me, and tell me how much they have missed me. Then they would drag me into the room and show me everything they have been doing and tell me everything that is to come in their lives. I would get their life story. I never had to tell them where I had been, what I did, and why I had not seen them in days. They did not care if I was a bad person or a good one. They just assumed I was good and they would show me love and kindness and would welcome me with open arms.
How many of us would do that for our neighbor? I’m sure most of us would not care to do that, or maybe we are just scared to open up. We need to just remember that God is waiting at the door for us. Waiting with open arms, and does not care what we did, he just wants to share his life with us and love us.
Remember
Romans 13:10 Love does no wrong to a neighbor. Love, therefore is the fulfillment of the law.
Romans 8:7 For those whose lives are according to the flesh think about things of the flesh, but those whose lives are according to the Spirit, about the things of the spirit
